Old School Halloween Shaving Cream Modification

I'm not sure if it was a regional phenomenon or if it's something from the past, but I thought I'd make a quick blog for those who might be interested in modifying shaving cream cans for some Halloween naughtiness.

When I was younger finding shaving cream streaks and egg spatters from Halloween night on November 1st was the norm. True, living in a house that was a normal target didn't help. Anyone who lived on the main drag in East Aurora, NY was fair game. A hose and some soap easily cleaning up any mayhem.

Anyway, in discussing a shaving cream war for Halloween, it became apparent that what I was talking about might be regional or simply old school. I thought I might do a simple step-by-step in case anyone might be interested in modifying shaving cream cans so they shoot a long distance. I used to go out armed with several cans that could shoot up to 20'. The following step-by-step is using a crusty old can of Barbisol, and I got it to shoot only 14'. Fresh cans are definitely recommended. 

What you need:

• A cheap can of regular shaving cream -  You might find bonus size cans which I recommend.
• A sewing needle or pin - The smaller the hole the better.
• Matches or a lighter - To melt the tip 
• A fire extinguisher - For safety

Step 1 - Insert the needle or pin

Insert the needle or pin as far as it will go but don't force it.

Step 2 - Melt the nozzle

With the pin or needle in, take a match or lighter and melt the plastic nozzle. When the plastic is soft, take your fingers or a tool and form the nozzle around the pin or needle. Be sure the pin is at least at the same angle as the original nozzle.

**Be sure to be careful to only heat and melt the plastic.**

Once the plastic cools and sets, remove the pin or needle. The image on the right shows what the nozzle should look like.

**It's a good idea to replace the safety cap so the cans do not accidentally discharge.**

Step 3 - Go have fun

Shake the can up and spray. It will come out in a high pressure stream. This crusty old can was able to shoot out a 14' stream. You should be able to shoot up to 20', depending upon how new the can of shaving creme is, how small the nozzle is, and how much pressure there is in the can.
